Cultivating summer

Cultivating summer

On Altamarea’s little entertainment square, children are playing and parents are chatting. The animation team finishes arranging the white chairs around the square. On the stage, a white screen has appeared. It’s movie night, and the seats fill up fast. A voice over the microphone announces the start of the movie: immediate silence falls over the square. The sun has already set, the weather is still warm tonight but a light breeze freshens the air. There, just a few meters away from the sea, the musical notes of Moana 2 fill the night. The children are delighted and the parents too have their eyes fixed on the screen. This is Altamarea’s greatest strength: sharing.

Beyond its many beach services, Altamarea also offers the chance to open up to culture and discover artistic and cultural activities that are accessible to everyone, without exception. This week, two authors came to the beach to present their books as part of the Mystfest, the city’s book festival. Two sessions destined to young readers, with a short interview followed by a creative workshop where the little ones were free to let their imagination run wild through drawing. Many left proud, with a book in hand, others with their drawing signed by the author.

Still on the theme of literature, on the 18th and 19th of July, Book Beach will take place, bringing together numerous authors for all tastes, for adults and children alike, with free entry for everyone, of course!

I watch them arrive: families, kids, curious souls. Here at Altamarea, every week brings new discoveries, and the most wonderful thing is that everyone can enjoy them. Events are free, designed to bring people together without distinction. Under the spotlights or in the shade of the umbrellas, culture is everywhere, discreet and joyful. It surprises, awakens, unites. Everyone can make it their own, in whatever way suits them.

Altamarea is a beach, but it is also a stage, a literary salon, a kitchen, an open-air workshop. Because there is no rule that says the mind must rest on holiday. On the contrary, it is the perfect time to feed curiosity, reawaken passions, and learn without even realising it, all between two dips in the sea, a treasure hunt and dancing along to Baby Shark.

I love seeing this shared emotion on the faces of families, friends and couples, all brought together by a common curiosity. They applaud warmly together during the Bulgarian Dance Festival, their eyes captivated by the choreography, the costumes, the singers.

It is in these moments that Altamarea reveals its true strength: being a place of sharing where culture is passed on simply, generously, all together.
